When I returned from a trip to New Orleans this past spring I spent I few days studying topographical maps of Brooklyn and thinking about my risk if a hurricane ever hit New York. My conclusions were right - I’m at pretty high risk of losing my house if there is actually a storm surge!

Now I’m trying to figure out how worried I should be. I’m going to be away this weekend (in Newport, RI - a much better place to ride out a hurricane, right?). But I was planning on leaving my cat at home.  Should I make arrangements for her to stay at a place that might be safer? Should I travel with my important documents?
